TOEFL Independent Speaking Practice (Legacy)

About this task

Independent Speaking was retired from the official TOEFL when ETS launched the 2026 redesign on January 21, 2026, which replaced it with the shorter Listen and Repeat and Interview tasks. It is kept here as a legacy, bonus practice mode rather than part of the current exam, useful if you want longer, less structured speaking reps or you are preparing against older TOEFL material. You get a topic, record or upload a spoken response, and receive AI feedback across three dimensions: delivery, language use and topic development, the same categories the old official rubric used. Because this task is not scored toward the current TOEFL 2026 band, use it for extra speaking volume and confidence rather than as a stand-in for Listen and Repeat or the Interview, which are what actually appears on test day now.
